This page provides an overview of some of the fun things we will be doing over the course of this half term. We continue with our letter of the week and as we work with the Department for children, schools and families ‘Principles and Practice of High Quality Phonics’ Letters and Sounds document we begin this half term with the letter ‘b’ . Our theme for this half term is Spring and change

Week 1 – w/c 29th April – letter b – We begin this half term with bugs, bees, birds and butterflies as we look at the letter ‘b’.   As we settle back we will have out our role play kitchen and the dolls which need a lot of looking after.  Hopefully the weather will be kind to us this half term so we can begin to move more activities outside into the garden.  Our literacy sessions will be working on the story of Jack and the Beanstalk so we will have lots of creative activities based around this story too.  We will be planting sunflowers ready for our Sunflower Growing competition which is judged at our end of term picnic.  Our Green Bods will be matching the correct amount of bugs to numbers.  We will start with 1-5 and maybe go on to 6-10 too!

Week 2 – w/c 6th May – letter f (4 days) –   Closed Monday – May Day Bank Holiday – A week of water play in our garden this week so we can link the letter ‘f’ to fish, frogs and flubber!   We will be investigating our frogspawn to see if it has changed, making frog headbands and perhaps even exploring what a real fish looks and feels like!   Our Green Bods will be thinking about their families and making their very own family trees

Week 3 w/c 13th May – letter l – We will be looking and listening this week as we work on the letter ‘l’   Time for bug hunts in the garden and checking out what is happening in our local environment.  We will make ladybirds, do a spot of lacing and even make some lovely lorries!   Our Green Bods will be talking about road safety before going out in small groups to look and listen to the traffic going along our local roads

Week 4 w/c 20th May – letter j – A week of Jack and the Beanstalk this week as we bring everything together to act out the story of Jack and the Beanstalk!  We will  plant our own beans to see if we can grow a beanstalk big enough for a giant to live at the top!   It will also be a week of lovely messy activities including some jelly!
